The 2020 edition of the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival made music lovers vibrate in a different way than the past 17 editions. The pandemic presented us with the challenge of finding another way to bring the joy of jazz to people’s homes and so we decided to hold our first-ever digital edition which was broadcast through our official YouTube channel and on the mexicancaribbean.travel website.
The first concert day began with the presentation of Aguamala, the band founded in Playa del Carmen which stands out by their mixing styles; followed by Steffie Belt, who set foot on this big stage for the first time in the 2017 edition and came back for the 2020 edition to fill the atmosphere with her distinguished vocals, then the band Xamán captivated us with a fusion of jazz and African-Caribbean rhythms that made us tremble.
Elite Band was the Mexican collective in charge of opening the second day of the festival; between rhythms and harmonies in their compositions they surprised us with their jazz repertoire.
Later, the stage was awarded with the arrival of Diego Maroto Quartet who filled up the evening with blues, turning it into a dreamy night with a contemporary touch.
The excitement continued the last day with Memo Ruiz Bolero Flamenco & Jazz, creating a unique ambiance by combining different genres. With the turquoise waters reflecting in the sky, we welcomed Natalia Marrokin, who is outstanding in the musical scene for her great drive and passion; at dawn Pepe Hernández & Paco Rosas Quintet were the talent in charge of ending the online transmission through the screen. Loyal jazz lovers.
We’ll catch you later in 2021!
